Twickenham businesses gathered at The Exchange on Thursday 22nd February to find out who were the worthy winners in the prestigious Try Twickenham Employee of the Year Awards.  Employers of all the BID businesses had been invited to nominate a valued member of staff.  Try Twickenham’s Board of Directors then drew up a shortlist from all the entries and the final decision was made by a panel of local influencers including Sir Vince Cable.

In the Office & Commercial category, the winner was Zofia Walewksa, Office Manager at Pico In-Creative.  Zofia was chosen for always bringing happiness to the office and consistently going above and beyond what is asked of her.  Glowing comments from her employer included “Zofia is the absolute heart of our office; she keeps everything going and I really don’t think the office would function without her.” Highly commended was Pritesh Chandarana, Technical Supervisor at Classic Miniatures who was nominated for his capability, commitment and reliability since he joined the company in 2005.

First prize in the Retail & Services category was awarded to Tommy Sylvester, Pharmacy Qualified Dispenser at Maple Leaf Pharmacy.  Tommy joined Maple Leaf as a schoolboy in 1992 and has given over twenty-five years of loyal service.  Owner, Galen Rosenberg commented, “Tommy frequently goes above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the pharmacy runs smoothly, the customers receive the very best of care and the staff and district nurses have everything they need to be able to do their job.”  Highly commended in this category was Yasmeen Hamid, Supervisor at Esquires Coffee House who was nominated for showing an extraordinary ability to improvise and adapt to challenging situations to help the business run smoothly.

This is the second year that Try Twickenham has held the awards for employees of BID businesses and the presentation of prizes was made by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Benedict Dias. First prize winners each received a cheque for £500 while the runners-up were awarded £250.  All four winners also received an impressive trophy, designed and etched by local Twickenham business, Classic Miniatures.

Stuart Green, Chairman of Try Twickenham Board of Directors and Landlord of The Cabbage Patch, commented “We were genuinely overwhelmed by the quality of the entries and we congratulate our four deserving winners as well as all those who were nominated.  These awards provide a superb platform for Twickenham businesses to show their appreciation of their employees and we are already looking forward to next year’s event.”
